Spoilers: when they were talking about their dinner plans :)
Pairing: Jack/Liz
Summary: "Well hello, Mrs. Donaghy."
"Do you have any plans for tonight?"
"I do. I bought an Activia Microwaveable Panini--"
"Good god, have dinner with me!"
"Just the two of us?"
"Yes!"
"Okay."
Liz knew Jack was gonna take her to a fancy restaurant. She just knew it. Luckily, she had just enough money to buy those Oscar Delarenta--wait, Delarento dress she'd been looking at for months. She wanted to feel pretty and now was her chance.
She finished putting the last of her make-up and went outside. Jack's limo was there, but he was not. Instead, his driver, or should she say, their driver since she gets a ride from him every single day with Jack, greeted her.
"Hello, Miss Lemon. Mister Donaghy is actually already there. He wanted it to be a surprise."
"Well, not much of a surprise if you tell me."
When the driver dropped Liz off, Liz went to the desk.
"Donaghy, for two."
The woman smiled.
"Ah, yes. Mrs. Donaghy, right this way please."
The women led Liz to the table where Jack was.
"Here you are. May I take your coat?"
"Yes, please."
"Would you like anything to drink, Mrs. Donaghy?"
"No, thank you. Maybe later."
"Mister Donaghy?"
"Later."
The woman left and Liz went and ate her food.
"So, why are we being called the Donaghys now?" she asked.
"Don't you like it? I mean, people think you're rich now and you're being treated with respect."
"Yeah, I mean it's kind of great, with all these privileges, but I'm not wearing any ring."
"Here, wear this."
Jack handed her a ring. Nothing extravagant, just handed it to her. Liz put it on.
"Is this for reals, Jack?"
"Do you...want me to marry you?"
"I mean, it's totally okay if we don't. We're just good friends. But marriage. That's life commitment, Jack."
"I know. But there's something I realize the other day. I could never be the man I am today if it weren't for you. You changed my life, Liz."
"So this just isn't a fancy dinner with a friend?"
"That's why it was a surprise."
"Okay. I will marry you, Jack."
The music started playing. Jazzy music. Everything was quiet except for the saxophone having its solo and Jack saying all the things he loved about Liz.
Jack was giving her the stare. The stare that made her tremble.
"Do you want to dance?"
This was definitely not a friend dinner, but it was better than staying at work.
